This week the Eco-Team judged your 'Switch Stickers' after school. We would like to thank everyone who entered - they were all really good and we had a hard time deciding the winners. After a long think we finally came to a conclusion and the winners for each class are:
Class R: Abby and Loren
Class 1: Amelia and Georgia
Class 2: Brandon and Tia
Class 3: Nathan (Thanks for the poster Abbie!)
Class 4: Ellie-May and Hollie
Class 5: Madihah and Jade
Class 6: Katie and Megan
Once again thank you for your great effort Kitwell, we really appreciate it :) We really wished we could have picked all of them! Hopefully, you will see the winners stickers displayed around the school and on this blog shortly.
Now that we have chosen the stickers and that the whole school knows how to save energy, we will be checking the classrooms to see if your class has remembered to switch off the lights. The Eco-Team will be auditing the classrooms at lunchtime. Our records will show the 'Energy Saver of the Week', which will be announced in good work assembly.
Remember the more energy we save the more money we will we have for resources!
Also this week Storm, Nasam, Mayci and Shelby have made Computer Monitor signs for each class. The Computer Monitor has to turn off our class computers at the end of each day.
Remember to keep saving energy everyone!!
Here is a link to some energy saving games for you to play:

Switching On to Switching Off!
This week the Eco-team has been discussing our campaign ‘Switching On to Switching Off’. Our goal is to make sure the school saves energy by remembering to turn off the lights when we are not using that particular room.
In our meeting, this Thursday, the team designed Switch Stickers to go next to the light switches around school.
We have also sent out a letter and piece of paper to every member of our school to inform them about this. Everyone should try to create a ‘Switch Sticker’ design and hand it in to class teachers by 10th March 2010. The Eco-team will choose the best few to display around the school. Keep an eye on this blog for some designs from the Eco-team!

Eco-posters
We've been designing posters to go up around the school. We thought posters would be a good idea because they'll remind everyone to try and make our school more eco-friendly. You may want to print one off and put it up at home. How eco-friendly are you?
This posters was designed by Megan from Year 5.

Working towards the Silver Award.
This term, the eco team have been working towards the silver award. Our school has already been awarded the EcoSchool Bronze certificate for looking after our school.
We have made a litter picking rota for this current term. The results have been very successful. As the eco team, we are on patrol for any litterbugs. We record the names of any in our eco diaries.
The eco team will also start to have after school meetings on a Thursday starting on February 25th February.
In the eco team, we encourage our school to save energy. Things we want to see include:-
- turning off the lights (last person out of classroom/toilets);
- turning off computers when not in use;
- closing the door to the corridors/classroom to save the heating;
- making sure electrical appliances are turned off at the wall/plug (not just left on standby).
We also check the energy metre weekly and record our energy consumption. We are starting to see a great improvement - keep up the good work, Kitwell!

Eco-Team Go For Gold!
Kitwell Primary School and Nursery Class has had a School Council for many years but now it also has an Eco-Team.
Our Eco-team was started so it could help look after the environment and also save electricity.
We have already achieved the Ecoschool Bronze award because we have started to think of ways in which we can make our school more friendly to the environment. We have also decided that we need to have a school governor and a parent on our Eco-team to help us.
One of these things that we have started to do is check the electricity meter to see how much energy we are using. Our aim to is to try to reduce the total over the next fews months. We are working hard to think of ways to do this.
If you want to know more about our Eco-team then you can take a look at our display in the reception area at the front of our school.
We are now aiming for the Silver award then finally the Green award.
